What is Mold?
Molds are fungal microorganisms that exist naturally in the
environment. They can grow in buildings (and on building
materials), especially in damp environments, and they
release spores that become airborne.
Mold is present (and often invisible) in countless
bathrooms, laundries, kitchens, linen closets, water-damaged
buildings, and even in the air we breathe. It tends to grow
and accumulate on and in damp, moist, or wet areas such as
bathroom tiles, walls/wallpaper, ceilings, behind cladding,
in and under carpets, in insulation materials, and in wood.
In homes, workplaces, and public-use areas, mold is
problematic as it can cause health and well-being issues in
humans (and, potentially, our pets) as well as, eventually,
structural damage.
